The television started started to have wavy lines across the screen. In the begining, it cleared up somewhat after being on for several minutes. Now it is continuous. It only effects the regular channels, The HD channels are not effected at all.

I wanted to get an idea of whether it is worth having repaired. I have had this set for five (5) years with no other problems.

I had the comcast cable come out with a new digital box and the technician said that the trouble is not in their equipment.

The model is a Toshiba 50HDX82.

Accepted Answer

This is a common problem on the Toshiba TV. It is caused by a problem with the hyper board. Replacement requires a major disassembly of the TV. Not a DIY project. You can expect the repairs to be in the ballpark of $400 in most areas. Sorry I could not tell you there was a button that you could push to get rid of the problem. The good news is after February of 2009 no non HDTV signals will be allowed so the problem will be not be there after that date, if you can bear with the problem until then.
