According to Minnesota Statute 550.36 a bond needs to be submitted which basically ensures that if the appeal is not won the amount will be paid as ordered by the lower court - keep in mind that interest will be accumulating as prescribed in the order/verdict while the appeal is underway. In lieu of posting the stated amount in the verdict of the lower court, the bond amount can be established by the Appellate Court based on specific circumstances of the payer. This is where the Supersedeas comes in, as that is a specific amount ordered by the appellate court upon your motion based on the merits of your appeal and ability to post bond based on your financial situation.
