Hi,

What brand of disposable face cloth was it? Was it a make-up remover one, or soapy one for cleansing?

How much does your dog weight and how long ago did he eat this?

How is he acting since this happened; has he eaten or drunk anything or eliminated?

Thanks,
Cher

thank you for replying. it was a soapy one for cleansing, wet and used, and he weighs about 10lbs. he seems fine and has had a little warm milk. he has not eliminated.

Hi again, and thanks for your additional information.

These facial cleansing cloths are made of a cloth like material, so I feel this ingestion may cause an intestinal obstruction in his system, and he might not be able to poop it out. If it was a regular sized one, like the size of a tissue, that's pretty big; if it was a smaller one, like the Oil of Olay's cleansing 'pillows' that suds when you add water and are sort of oval, that's smaller, but contains the soap, and also a rough exterior. Most of these cloths contain a soap, emollients (oils/skin softeners), alcohol, fragrance, preservatives, and other ingredients your dog just shouldn't be eating. The soap in it might make him vomit, but will the cloth come up? This, we don't know.

I always prefer to err on the side of caution, and I'd bring him to the ER vet, now, if you're able, for diagnosis and treatment. If he just swallowed this, they might make him vomit, however, this particular material might do more harm than good, coming up again, so they may do an x-ray to see it's exact location and decide if he can pass it or give him something to help pass it.

I hope he'll be alright, and please keep me posted on how he's doing and what happens at the vet's.

Thanks,
Cher

hi cher, he seems fine! I called 3 different hospitals and they said different things. but he has not vomited, he pooped a little,(from food before he swallowed cloth)and he was very hungry this morn, ate a couple strips of organic turkey jerky and is happy and moving. were going to wait it out and hopefully he can eliminate it. were watching closely. Do you know of any product to help him poop? The vets wanted to force him to throw up or do surgery! It seemed very harsh..but were praying for a natural solution. thank you

Answer

Hi again, and thanks very much for your update; things sound good right now, and I hope they stay that way.

You can give him 1/2 teaspoon plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling), and the natural fiber will help keep things moving in his intestinal system, but it's a cumulative effect and not an instant 'fix'. You can also offer some cat hairball remedy, which also acts as a stool softener/lubricant, like Petromalt or Laxatone, found in all major pet supply stores. Feed as usual, and make sure he's drinking sufficiently; the more fluid in his system, the better, to help things to keep moving.

Keep a close watch on his stools to see if this passes. If he begins to show any symptoms of constipation, stomach pains, labored breathing, not eating, or lethargy, definitely have him seen immediately, okay?

Keep me posted. Thanks!

Cher
