Hello XXXXXXXXXXX,
Thank you for asking your question on Just Answer. I would bet the noise is coming from the tub bearings since they are know to be a part that fails often on some models of Maytag washers. You may notice indication of water leaking in the bottom of the washer. This is an indication that the tub seals are going bad. Make sure the tension pulley is not causing the problem. By placing a wood dowel or a similar item against areas of the washer and holding your ear on the end of whatever you are using you can normally locate the source of the noise, easier that placing you ear close to the suspected noise. If the problem is found to be the tub bearings, this is not normally a DIY repair that I would recommend. It is very labor intensive. Most appliance repair shops will recommend replacing the washer since the cost of doing the repair is more than the value of the washer.
