Hello, Customer (name blocked for privacy)

Any time you see blood in stool you need to make a vet appointment. Also gather a fresh stool sample if you can to take with you.

Blood in stool is often times caused by parasites. More specific protozoan parasite called coccidia or giardia are often the culprit. These are single celled organisms that you can not see in the stool. They live in the digestive tract and cause irritation. Blood in stool with diarrhea in the most common symptom seen with these parasites. Also things like colitis, IBD and such can cause similar symptoms.

You can give him some plain yogurt to help firm the stool, and add good bacteria to his digestive tract. Just give 1 tsp a day.

Best Wishes,

Micki
