Carol:How long has this behavior been going on?
msmarie54:I just noticed it early this morning
Carol:Ok. Is the "purring" because the wings are vibrating, or is it a sound coming from her mouth?
msmarie54:I believe it is coming from the wings, can only hear it when I am holding her
Carol:Ok, the noise is just her wings buzzing while she shivers. How about her poops? Are they normal, runny, or an odd color?
msmarie54:They are darker today, almost black
Carol:Ok, that is a very bad sign. Black poop means she's got either a disease or a nasty intestinal infection
Carol:Call an avian vet and tell them that she is puffed up, showing respiratory distress, and her feces are suddenly black
Carol:You will get an appointment right away since this is considered an emergency situation.
msmarie54:Thank you
Carol:You are more than welcome. Do you need help finding an avian vet or anything else?
msmarie54:One more thing
msmarie54:How would she have gotten an intestinal infection, she is with me all the time
Carol:It sometimes is caused by an infected toy, stale food, or she had a cold which weakens the immune system, and she was unable to fight off the bacteria and it's gotten out of hand
Carol:Whenever you go to a pet store and buy anything, make sure to wash everything, and any plastic or wooden parts should be soaked in bleach for a couple hours to make sure that it's clean. So many people bring their infected birds to the pet store, the bird touches a toy, and now whoever buys that toy will get a sick bird.
msmarie54:Ok, thank you very much
Carol:You're welcome! I hope she gets better!
