To check to see that you are getting the appropriate voltages to the starter, I would check for voltage at the large red wire. There should be 12 volts at all times. The other wire will be a smaller gauge purple wire. This wire will only have 12 volts with the key in the start position. You will need an assistant to turn the key while you test this wire. If you have voltage at both of these wires, you are likely going to need a starter. As far as cost goes, the starter alone from a dealer is going to cost you $350.00 and labor will be .8 hours. So if your local labor rate is $100 per hour this repair is going to cost you $80.00 for labor and $350.00 for the parts. So I honestly would figure that $430.00 would not be out of line. That is with a $100 an hour labor rate. If your rates are higher or lower it will make a difference. Feel free to contact me with any questions! Good luck!
