my tv when i plug it in there is nothing no sound no picture or nothing so i took the back off of itand checked the cord to make sure it was connected and it was live so i know its gettin juice and the picture tube doesnt appear to be blown what else can i check

Have you by any chance checked to see if perhaps the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies the plug in which that TV is plugged has been tripped (turned off) for some reason? Some TV sets have an internal fuse. Check that also.
