Hello. The information about original dates and and subsequent reprints is almost always located on the title page or on the back side of the title page. The initial printing doesn't usually say that it is the original printing so to not see that notation is normal. When a book is printed for the first time, you will generally only see something like "copyright 1928", or whatever the year of printing. Then if it goes to subsequent printings, the information will read something like "copyright 1928, copyright renewed 1930" and so on. The copyright being renewed with each printing. Others may start out with similar information but if reprinted may say something like, "copyright 1928, reprint 1930", and so on. I'm saying several "usually" and "maybe" because not all publishers or printing companies always do it exactly the same way. If you have a book that only says "copyright 1928", then it is most likely a first edition. However, because of those if's and maybes, you best bet to be positive is to take it to a good book store and have some one look at it in person. You best bet will be if you have an antique book store locally or, second choice, a reputable antique dealer. If that fails, have a knowledgeble employee at a store like B. Dalton, etc. take a look for you. I hope this helps but if not, let me know. Patricia
