Question

Hi I need more advice rather than treatment. My partner and I share a health sex life and I work hard keeping it that way because I believe it is part of a health relationship. My problem is that I smell really bad the following day which makes me uncomfortable. We use condoms and I wear liners and shower of course but I notice just an hour after my shower - If I notice others will definitely notice. I know enough to know that it is completely normal for individuals to have more vicocious fluid than others and mine seems very normal just it takes all day sometimes two days to leave my body - Do you have any suggestions?

Hi

How long have you been aware of this problem?

Do you have a discharge?

Has anyone actually commented on the "smell"?

May I ask if you have any history of sexual problems - you seem to treat sex like an obligation rather than "lovemaking."

No Sex is definitely not an obligation, I have been in a relationship with my partner nearly 5 years and thorogly enjoy making love to him - we are engaged and I love him completely. It's only that I have always believed it to be healthy.

I have noticed it ever since I started having sex. I don't think it is discharge, it is usually clear and "mucas-like" in consistancy.

No one has commented on the smell I wear a fairly good dose of perfume and conciously don't lean over or near people.

My PAPS haven't alerted anything out of the ordinary and I have never had anything more than a bout of Thrush. I have had only 3 previous sexual partners none of whom had a history of sexual discomforts or disease.

Accepted Answer

Good

Often patients who feel that they have a "smell" usually turn out to have a psychosexual problem.

I'm not saying that is you!

I'd usually have a vaginal swab sent to lab - just in case there is a problem with your vaginal flora - not the same as a STD but things like group B strep and BV can cause problems.

It may be worth trying a condom to see if that helps.

You should minimize vaginal hygiene - it's self cleaning and interfering with the delicate pH regulation can aggravate problems.

Really I never knew you could over clean yourself!! Thats amazing - No I'm positive I am not pscologically imbalanced haha (admitting it is the problem)

I am already using condoms. Would it help to urinate straight after sex? Does it Help to avoid sex until mid menstral cycle? It really just feels like its not runny enough. There is always enough lubrication during sex and we use extra I don't feel pains or discomfort I just wish there was a way to flush it out. If that makes any sense.

Answer

Hi

Urinating after sex makes bladder infections less likely but would not help you.

I would not vary your sexual behavior with your cycle.

Your partners semen will liquefy after about 20 mins - and the usual volume is less than 5ml - so there is not a lot to come out and it will be liquid.

Sorry - I will accept soon one more question. Could that mean that my "cum" is excessive? Is it not normal for ladies to excreet a certain about of moisture after sex? Is it a problem if I do have alot? Could that be why it takes a long time to leave me and causes the smell? Still not sure there will be anything I can do besides what I am already doing to reduce the smell factor. Purfume and liners only last so long.

Answer

Hi

Vaginal secretions are noramal and will vary depending upon your level of arousal.

There is nothing you can do to reduce the volume.

It is worth getting a swab sent to the lab.
