Question
I have a 2002 jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6, My question is about the idleling of the car, it seems that as I go reverse from a parking lot it suddenly moves quick without me pressing on the accelerator gas pedal, the same goes as I am approaching a stop light as I slow down to stop, when I the car is almost at a stop motion it suddenly jerks forward, how come it does this? I look at the RPM gauge and I see the needle going up and down as if someone is pressing the gas pedal on and off?

Accepted Answer
It sounds like the engine's idle speed control system is acting up. This can be caused by a buildup of fuel varnish deposits in the idle speed control valve, or by an electrical problem in the idle speed control system.
Sometimes, the problem can be cleared up by cleaning the inside of the throttle and the idle airbypass circuits with some aerosol throttle cleaner. If this does not help, replacing teh idle speed control motor is usually necessary.
