Question

Hello. I have male large breed dog, he is almost thirteen. For the past few weeks he has had problems with pooping, it just comes out at any time. He is perfect weight and size, is also a happy boy that I love dearly, is there anything I can do for him, or do you think my Veterinarian should have a look at him?

Answer

With his age it would be best to have him seen by your vet. Often as they age they can lose some muscle control of the sphincter muscles and that may be what is going on. It could also be arthritis induced. Having him checked will give you a better idea if something can be done medically or if it is something that he is going to have as he ages. Hopefully it is arthritic in nature and arthritis medication can help.
