Info Request

Hello,

How bad is the bleeding?

Is the problem down to the quick or is the whole nail missing?

Reply to Jav917's Post: the bleeding is not too bad but he keeps licking it. The nail is still attached but you can tell it is out of place.

Info Request

Hello,

Is the nail broken from the top or ripped at the pad?

I am assuming that this is a dew claw that is injured.

it is the dew claw. I guess it is closer to the pad.

Hello,

Thank-you for the information it aids me in helping your baby. There are several ways of treating the injury and spopping the bleeding. The first is Kwik-Stop or any styptic powder or Pencil (the type men use when they shave). This stings, but works well. Take a pinch of powder or use the stick and press onto the affected nail after wiping away the blood. Cornstarch or flour can also be used in the same way to stop the bleeding. Lastly for small problems, like what you are seeing, you can simply applying pressure to the area of the nail. Any of these should stop the bleeding. The toe and pad will have to watched for infection, but should heal well with a little time and care. Joan
