I would be a good idea to show the bump to your family dentist to see if it is a cause of concern. If you do not have a family dentist , I would recommend getting and appointment with either an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat doctor) or an Oral Surgeon. Both experts would be able to determine if a biopsy is needed.
Sometimes people bite their tongue and it can cause a bump. That usually goes away on its own within a few days. However, if the bump has grown on its own and does not go away, it is a cause for concern. The lateral (side) borders of your tongue is on of the main locations of oral cancer. Since oral cancer tends to spread quickly, it is important to get in to see a doctor as quickly as possible. Oral cancer is more common in people over 40, however, it seems to be occuring more frequently in younger people.
