Question

6 month old Yorkie is sneezing, coughing and has terrible "snuffles" - nasal discharge. Has been on Clavamox for 11 days and was on Baytril for 9 days. She weighs just 23 ounces. We're up at 2am as she is having such a hard time. The congestion in her lungs has cleared up pretty much but her little nose is so "snotty"!! What can we do to give her some immediate relief?

Hi,

Since she's so young, and doesn't weigh very much, I wouldn't suggest giving any kind of decongestant or antihistamine medication without the guidance of your vet, but for the time being, to help reduce congestion and open up the nasal passages, run a humidifier in your home or in the room she's in the most, and also, run a hot shower to steam up your bathroom and sit in there with her for 15 minutes at a time, every 2 hrs. Wrap her in a towel when you come out, so she doesn't get a chill.

Call your vet to report her symptoms, despite the antibiotics, and ask what further can be done to help her feel more comfortable.
