Most US newspapers today have websites with a limited supply of archived articles online. Many will provide access to papers up to about two weeks old free of charge, but will charge a fee for older archived articles. Each paper has its own policy and limit of how far back you can go. Most will also provide "hard copies" of older articles from their own files (not on the web) if you know the specific article and date. Some will also let people browse the microfiched newspapers in their "morgue" where they are kept, if you go there in person.
If you let me know the specific newspaper and date you are interested in, I will try to obtain further information, but you can probably do just as well on your own.
