I have a pecan shaker which primarily works on hydraulics. I've isolated the problem to one valve, which we have now replaced. We are still have intermittent problems, the valve will engage, disengage on an intermittent basis. This shaker runs at extremely high hydraulic fluid temps. Any suggestions? Could the fluid be burnt causing solids to make valve stick intermittently? If so are there oil treatments that might be incorporated with hydraulic fluid to break up some of the solid that might be causing the sticking?

Edward, thanks. I'm inquiring for a family member. I'm going to accept your answer. The name of this additive is worth the 15$. They suggest adding at 2-5%. Is this what you recommend or going a little higher? This pecan shaker holds roughly 50 gal hydraulic fluid.

I would stay with their recommendations. I know 50 gallons is a lot of fluid and most likely it never gets changed completely, but it is a good idea to change in occasionally to avoid problems. The fluid will be cheaper that replacing the parts the worn out fluid can cause.

Reply to Edward's Post: One last question, where do I get this additive? Is this available at a parts store, agricultural parts place(i.e. John Deere, etc.), or is there something comparable that could be used from a local store?
