Question

My refrigerator is freezing everything despite the fact that I have set it to the warmest position. Is there a way to reset the thermostat myself, or any other DIY possibilities?

The fridge is a Kenmore XXXXXXXXXX. I have the fridge (not freezer) thermostat set to 0 (the warmest setting) but the temperature is 2°F. I don't have the temp in the freezer.

Thanks for your reply. Many would suggest if the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. I do not believe this is the problem since the freezer's temperature is close to what the setting indicates it should be. I believe the problem is related to the air damper. This damper controls the amount of cold air that is sent to the refrigerator section. The parts of the damper are plastic and can break with age. The damper can also get blocked with ice or other objects, which will prevent it from closing properly. Check to make sure the control that operates the damper is set correctly and that the knob is not broken causing the damper not to operate. Sorry to say there is no button to press to correct the problem. The repair needed will require some disassembly of the refrigerator. If you are not comfortable doing this I would suggest a call to your local appliance repair store is in order.
