What are the risks of taking darvocet during pregnancy?

It has been taken occasionally for lower back pain. Not every day, not even every week...what are the potential risks...are there any?

There are two ingredients in darvocet: tylenol and propoxyphene. Tylenol is the only drug proven safe in pregnancy.
Regarding propoxyphene it is less clear. It has not been demonstrated to be either safe or unsafe.
No specific evidence of harm from occasional doses has been shown EXCEPT that infants HAVE been born addicted to the drug (it is a narcotic, like heroin and morphine) if the mother used regularly right before birth.
But again, very occasional use has NOT been known to cause this or any other problem.
