Question

We have taken in an abandoned cat, who seems not to have eaten for 2 weeks, which is when its owner abandoned the house opposite us (we think), she looks okay, and is now eating well and sleeping a lot but her stomach is very large, I wondered if she was pregnant but the bulge is very far up, under her rips, as if her stomach is really enlarged or gassy, you can feel her ribs very clearly and I would expect her to be very thin but her stomach seems to stick out at both sides I wondered if this was a sign or starvation, or if she really can be pregnant, but as I say it's too high under her ribs maybe? I dont' want to take her to the vet until I am sure her owner is not coming back but feel I ought to feed her and give her a home in the meantime, if no-one has returned in another couple of weeks we will addopt her and get her to the vet, in the meantime any advice appreciated

Oh this poor kitty!!

May God bless you for helping her!!

A bloated belly can be a sign pf pregnancy, worms, infection, starvation or a disease called FIP (God forbid).

As long as she is eating she is not feeling too bad as sick cats wont eat.

I would have her seen by a vet and have it documented that YOU provided medical care for her.Anyone who would abandon a cat with no food or shelter does not deserve to get her back nor would their request stand up in any court.

Please let me know how she is. I will always be here for both of you.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri

Hi - thanks very much, yes she is eating so she can't be very sick, I have given her some working solution, her stomach is making funny noises and she is giving off smelly gas, bless her, but she has been to the toilet and her system seems to be up and running again, I think maybe all that food after such a long time is a bit of a shock to the system. No sign of the owner yet, but the cat seems not to even want to go near the house, the house door is open and she isn't attempting to go further than our garden, she then just comes back in here and sleeps. If the owner comes back I doubt she will want to go back and I think you are right, they don't deserve to keep pets, so I think she just may well be our new member of the family, thanks for your help!
