Hi XXXXXXXXXX,
There are many different types of Feline Lymphoma ranging from localized to generalized types.
Generally, to be successful in achieving any type of appreciable remission, it is recommended that cat's go through the recommended chemo protocol for their particular type of lymphoma. This can only be determined by histopathology/biopsy and cannot be "guessed" at.
Prednisone is an important part of multifaceted chemotherapy for feline lymphoma, but by itself, we do not expect it to be able to put a cat into remission or control most of the symptoms.
Prognosis is variable based on the type of lymphoma and the STAGE of the cancer that the pathologist identifies.
If my cat had lymphoma , and it was caught early in Stage 1 or 2 and maybe even 3, I would definitely pursure chemotherapy. In cats, the cost is minimal, the drugs are fairly well-tolerated, and there is a favorable prognosis for improving the quality and quantity of your pet' life.
Without chemo, life expectancies can vary from months to up to a year.
