Question

I have been having a problem with frequent urination & controlling my bladder, constipation, pain in coccyx & hips, digestion, nausea. I know that i have Tarlov cysts but haven't had a myelogram. Urinary infections can result from Tarlov cysts & i've had several. What I really am curious about is e-coli. i've been treated w/antibiotics for e-coli more than 3 times. Do you know if e-coli might be connected to Tarlov Cysts?

Tarlov cysts are most likely not infected with e.coli.

  • This website gives more information on Tarlov cysts.

    E. Colli is one of the predominant bacteria is the lower GI tract and may become pathogenic when inoculated into the urinary tract, usually through contamination.

  • This site gives more information about urinary tract infections.

Bacteria may become colonized in the urinary tract and not be symptomatic until an event triggers an overgrowth and infection.

Have you read the most recent studies/findings on Tarlov Cysts? Many doctors have not even heard of them and do not know how to advise. My Urologist wasn't familiar with them and couldn't assoc. the UTI or e-coli with Tarlov cysts.

The pain, bladder, and bowel are my main concern/complaint concerning Tarlov cysts. The UTI & e-coli are offspring in my opinion.

Would you make a suggestion as to the doctor/avenue to pursue for the best resolve of my Tarlov cysts, etc.?

I appreciate your expertise & opinion. This has been a source of great frustration in my life.

For evaluation and treatment of the Tarlov Cysts, a neurosurgeon would be the physician to consult. These cycsts are found within the spine.

    Thank you and good luck

    Andy,

Thanks for your assistance. I have already seen 2 Neurosurgeons to no avail. 'Thought an objective opinion might help. This is not the correct venue for my questions and I realize that now.

    Best to you,

    Michele
