Question

we have an old house and are surrounded by fields and gardens...the hatchway seems to be snug and no holes but we have snakes in the cellar. Is there natural {like garlic or moth balls or something like that} away to make them leave and keep them out?

Info Request

Hello,

Do you keep your Cellar warm?

Are all holes and crevices closed where a snake cannot enter?

cellar is warm and cracks and things are mostly closed except the hatchway...but where it is not sealed if sealed we will end up not able to open hatchway

Accepted Answer

Hello,

There is no miracle way of keeping the snakes out, but the practical way would be to trim all shrubbery away from the area closest to the cellar. The other thing is to make the cellar very cold. The warmth is what is drawing the snakes in. As the weather begins to change the snakes are looking for a warm place to take refuge, since the cannot thermo regulate their temperatures, you cellar being warm is the perfect place to hide. Another option would be to use a bug fogger which would be toxic to the snakes and kill them then cool the cellar down to keep the snakes out. Other than those options or have an exterminator come on there is not too much that will work as a repellent. Joan Jav917
