Question

My 14-year old border collie mix has steadily slowed, then she began vomiting after eating, has finally stopped eating for 5 days, and has started eating grass. She has been in the vet hospital for the last 3 days, and they are giving her IV fluids, antibiotics (her white cell count was slightly elevated - so possible infection of unknown origin), and anti-nausea medicine. X-rays were inconclusive, so she is scheduled for an ultrasound day after tomorrow. She seems alert, and still wags her tail when I go visit her, and will walk outside (although not for long).   Blood and urine tests did not uncover anything re: liver or kidneys the vet felt was 'urgent'. What else could I suggest they do? Should she get an endoscopy?

The ultrasound may show you if there is an issue with a tumor or even an ulcer along the digestive tract.
The grass eating and anorexia (lack of eating) could be due to a problem in the upper gastro intestinal tract such as an ulcer. Helicobacter infections can cause ulcers.
If the ultrasound doesn't show anything ask your vet about an endoscopic exam and if they think its warranted.
Hope this helps you!
