Did she have blood work performed?
How much protein was in her urine?
Was a urine protein/creatinine ratio performed?
Was she ever put on antibiotics?
Is she symptomatic of kidney disease? Increased thirst, increased urination, decreased appetite, vomiting?
Thank you
Theresa
Yes, in this case benazapril is safe to use in your dog. Monitoring bloodwork, especially the kidney values is important with this drug. She did have some kidney elevations so it must be used with caution. This drug actually has been used to lower blood pressure as well as it is currently being used in conjunction with other treatments for early renal disease. It has a substantial benefit as a treatment for renal failure so I would not be afraid to use it. It has been shown actually to slow the progression of kidney disease in many patients.
Blood work should be checked every 3-6 months.
