Question

Our family's 2006 Cadillac V-8 STS is apparently set up as a preformance auto, which we were not aware of when we purchased it. It has low profile tires, carries 30# air, and rides very rough, especially on roads with expansion joints and such. Is it possible to change the tires or tires to regular full size, and if so, will that make a better ride? Our Cad service man says not to put larger tires on it. What say you??
Thanks much, Gene K

You may feel a difference with a different tire size, but it will only make a small difference. The STS is designed with performance minded engineering. That being said you will also have to look at struts and springs to even begin to start looking for better ride quality. These items are all designed for a car to handle and corner. You may get a small difference out of the tire change, I wouldn't figure enough to make it worth it. The down side to this is that as you change the tires you will be also changing your final drive ratio and your speedometer will be off, transmission shifting will not be right and you will lose acceleration. You must also make sure that you will still be able to get the car inspected. In PA you are only allowed to change the tire size up two steps before it can no longer be inspected. I wish i could tell you better, but I don't think that changing the tires will be enough to make this have the "Cadillac ride". From my experience you would be better suit in a deville. The devilles ride like they are on air and to me that sounds like what you are looking for. Let me know if there is any more I can tell you.
