Question

What if I'm living in Tennessee and my husband lives in Florida. We haven't lived together or even seen eachother in 13 years. Is there any certain documents or special procedures I need to follow. We have been married for 26 years, seperated for 13. There are no minor children, no joint property or any ties between us except a marrage certificate. I have tried to file before. It was agreed upon bye the both of us if I payed. But when I sent the money to him to file, I believe he kept it. There were no documents sent to me. No lawyer phone calls or anything of the sort. I would just like to finally be finished with this mess.

Answer

You may file in either state if you lived in your state for 180 days. It would seem that the issues could be fairly simple. If there is no agreement on the settlement, court hearings would be necessary, however, and the issues could proceed to a trial.
