Hello. You are asking about a Cockatiel, right? Birds are not like dogs and cats. You don't break them of anything. You have to let them see they can trust you long before they are going to allow you to put your hands on them. If it's new to you and you are trying to handle it, you are rushing it much too fast. And if you are reaching into it's cage and forcing it to come out, you are only making matters worse. Birds are still wild creatures and we have to respect that if we want to get anywhere with them. You would have to spend lots of time near the cage talking to it, earning it's trust, and of course making sure you are feeding it properly and protecting it from all the dangers in your home. If you don't want to keep the bird, it's probably best to go ahead and let someone have it who has some experience with birds and has the time and patience to work with it, to get it past the trust issues. If you have been rushing it so fast that it has resorted to trying to bite, it could take a really long time to get that trust back. Cockatiels are not biting birds by nature and they have to be pushed pretty far to react with a bite. I'm going to give you some links and I hope you will go to them and read all the information about proper care and diet. That could help a lot with the taming process. If the bird ends up going to a new person, you can pass the informatin along with the bird. If you need anything else, let me know. Patricia
