Hi Ellen,
I do not undestand - your brother will be watching the cats where?
in NY?
in the country?
where will you be?
how long have these kitties lived together?
What are their names?
why do they need a safe room?
Please elaborate further.so I can help.
Thanks,'Terri
Dear Ellen,
Please stand by while I type detailed answer.
Will the dog be with them in the condo?
how many days total will you be away from them?
Which is the dominant one Lilly or happy?
Thanks,
Terri
Cats HATE to go anywhere. As you know they are very territorial. There home is their sanctuary where they feel safe. Taking them back and forth is very stressful and upsetting to them
All hissing means is I'm scared!!! It is similar to a lions roar - designed to make the cat fearsome in the enemies eyes and get him to back down.I would not worry about it too much.
Here is the problem, your girls were stressed - then they smelled new scents - heard strange sounds and they did not see you - their mom - their anchor. Although cats do not follow a pack leader like dogs - they do depend on their human mom if they are in a different place or afraid.
My best advise to you is to leave your girls in their home. They do not need a 24/7 cat sitter. Just someone to come in once or twice a day and feed, water and check on them. They will sleep the rest of the time.
If they are in the country - stressed - smelling a dog - hearing outside cats - they are liable to stop eating and they you will come back to two sick kitties. They will be fine at home with a sitter for six days. That is what I would do if they were my babies.
Please let me knw if you wish to discuss this further. I will always be here for you.
Have a great trip and don't worry.
