Answer

Hi,

Whenever a cat or kitten reacts this way, she's most likely in pain, or very frightened. If you adopted her and her sister together and they are littermates, familiar with each other, she would not be scared of her sister, as well as you.

Adapting to her new environment (your home) is expected to take some time, and Feliway plug-ins should help relax her, but if her reaction is one of pain, the source must be diagnosed and treated, so a vet visit would be a good idea, ASAP. Try to have her seen tom'w, and bring her sister if she hasn't been seen by the vet in a while, either. It's always a good idea to have new kittens/cats checked out when you first get them, in any case, and if this kitten seems to have something bothering her, due to her growling and hissing, the vet will be able to tell you if there is a medical problem or if it is behavioral.

I wish you and your kitties much good luck!
