Answer

Hello. Unless you are an experienced hand feeder, you should not be attempting to handle the chicks at all. Don't try to mess with them at all until they have fledged and left the nest box and are nearly fully feathered. Even then, make sure you wash thoroughly with antibacterial soap before touching them. They are very at risk of illness, infections and bacteria right now. The only thing you should be doing is making sure the parents are getting plenty of veggies, leafy greens and things like cooked brown rice, cooked pasta, hard boiled or scrambled eggs, well cooked bean mixes and much more. You should also go to the pet store and pick up some baby bird formula. But, under no circumstances try to feed any to the chicks. I can almost guarantee you will kill them if you try it, without proper training. It will be in powder form. Mix just a very small amount with warm water and give it to the parents. They, hopefully, will feed it to the chicks themselves. Don't leave it out more than a couple hours and don't ever use any left over. It grows bacteria very quickly. I hope this helps you out but if you have any more questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck with the little family. Patricia
