We have planted Anaheim Pepper plants. The plant sets a blossom, the blossom dies and falls off, and a tiny pepper forms. Then the tiny pepper and the stem it is on falls off of the plant. Are we doing something wrong?

Hi Danny,

We planted the peppers from plants about 10 to 12 inches apart. The nights are not too cool - we live in Iowa and the lowest temperature since we planted them was above 55 degrees. They are on the south side of the house and get quite a lot of sun and heat during the day.

hello again.

Peppers like tomatoes are sensitive to temperature. Most peppers will drop their blooms when in the daytime when the temperature gets above 90 degrees in combination of nighttime temps.of 75 degrees. They will also lose their blooms in early spring if temps remain cool for long periods of time.

Peppers withstand hot temps. well and can produce fruit through the summer months 70 to 80 degrees for bell type peppers and for hot types it must be 70 to 85 degrees .

Relist: I still need help.
Danny,

If it is too hot and sunny where we have our Anaheim's, what can we do to help them out?

Thank you.

If you replant some peppers now, I believe they will be okay as long as temps. don't dip very low in the night time hours. If you have a area which gets less of the hot temp. during the hottest hours that would be a good point too. Usually peppers do really well.

I read an article too that said if you remove some of the blooms after they come on, that it will give you a higher yield on your peppers, and I have tried this on other types of peppers and done quite well, so I know it works.

Also be sure that you water before the sun or after the sun goes down so the plants get enough moisture.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

Danny
