Question

I have a 1991 chevrolet pickup with a 350c.i. engine, the forward spark plug on the left side (drivers) is fouled but getting spark. Engine misfires, with valve cover off, all valvetrain components seem to be working. The engine has 167,000mi. on it

I would try doing a compression test on all the cylinders. With that kind of mileage you may have burned valve(s) on more than one cylinder. Typically the engine should have over 100 psi and not more than 10% difference between the any two cylinders. If there is then you are probably looking at a valve job. Personally tho, I wouldn't recommend removing the heads because once you rebuild the top half and not the bottom half then you're asking for trouble. That's somethingt you need to decide based on finances, experience and practicality. Let me know if you need any more info ok.
