Answer

Hi Stan 06,

First let me explain the reason you hear a hiss coming from a snake. The reasons snakes make that sound is a defense mechanism to help keep preditors away. The sound occurs due to the volume of air being forced through the constricted airway of their throat. Many reptiles including lizards use this to vocalize STAY AWAY!

I hope this helps! Joan Jav917
