Question

I have a litter of 2 puppies born C-section (were 4 -1 born dead and 1 died at 48 hours old) They are now 14 days old. 1 of the puppies at about 11 days cries at about the same time each day (between 4-6 pm). I have been watching both closely, the puppy that cries the most is a male the other female cries but not as much. The rest of the time, both do not fuss much except when mom leaves the box. They are nursing well and gaining weight (at 14 days - female weighs 3-3/4 lbs; male 3-1/4 lbs), eyes opening, ears opening, moving around--what could be the problem??? they are golden puppies.

Hi XXXXXX,

It may just be a time when their stomachs are becoming more filled from multiple meals and everything is moving through their systems. At this age, their bowels are starting to move on their own and mom may not be stimulating them as much by licking thier stomachs. As a result they may have a bit more abdominal discomfort at this time. If they are not fussing and crying frequently, are nursing and gaining weight well, which you indicate, then I wouldn't worry a whole lot about that. In about a week, they will start weaning and you may see a lot more of this as they start solid foods and their intestinal tract has to become used to this. You can read about weaning puppies here;

I hope this eases your mind a bit and is helpful to you.
