My 1996 ford escort wagon's reservoir plastic coolant ...

My 1996 ford escort wagon's reservoir plastic coolant tank starts and makes a bubbling sound when I shut off my engine. My mechanic suggested "bleeding" the radiator...pls tell me if this is correct. My temp gauge shoes a quarter away from "cold". Can the thermostat malfunctioning necessarily cause this?   Gary P.

Gary,

  • You only need to bleed it if you have done any repairs to the cooling system...you most likely do have a faulty engine thermostat. I would replace it first and see if the engine is still continuing to overheat.
