Hi Courtney:
Pot Bellied Pigs blow their coats about once per year and boy do they itch like crazy when it happens. You can help this by simply pulling out the hair that is shedding. A good stiff brush will do wonders and give your pig some major relief. As far as preventing this from happening....there really isn't anything you can do to prevent it from happening. Its what they do. If you are worried about the sun, just make sure you boy has plenty of shade...if his house area is fenced in, a simple tarp, pitched with some 2x4's connected with bungie cords work wonderfully to provide some shade. You can also add some (about a half teaspoon) of olive oil to his diet to help his skin from drying out. Normally pot bellies will dust themselves to keep them from buring. :) You can also put some sun screen on him. We did this in the summer months when the sun was the hottest and used 40 SPF and our girls did great. :) Just don't get it in his eyes or nose or mouth. :) Hope this helps and good luck with your boy :)
