Answer

Hello,

It sounds as if it could be a type of seizure. Seizures take all forms some are more violent than others. There are also a few reasons seizures can occur. Some are primary epilepsy seizures and others are secondary- meaning there was a cause. This can be exposure to a toxin or organ system failure. You should have him seen by your vet for bloodwork. This will rule out the secondary type. There are medications that can control these episodes. If they are more frequent than once a month or if they last longer than 5 minutes, your pet will likely be a candidate. Dogs with seizures are put on medications to prevent the side effects of seizures. They can and often do get worse over time and can lead to death if not managed. Dogs who's seizures are managed can go on to lead relatively normal lives.
