Question

My kids have MRSA staph and I was wondering if they are life carriers of it and if it will always be in there system? Or is there a way that it can be eliminated so that it will not recure?

Answer

Hi,

Generally people carry the staph bacterium in their noses. You can use mupirocin nasal ointment (Bactroban®) inside the nose of each family member to kill the staph. It is used 2-3 times a day for a week. Everybody should use it at the same time to completely get all the staph out of the house.
