Hello,
Is she on any medication or just the bathing?
How was the yeast infection diagnosed?
Thanks,
Amy
Thanks for the additional information,
Yeast infections of the skin can occur for many reasons though allergies are a frequent cause. Yes, food allergies can be a cause. You can have your dog tested for food allergies but there is discrepancy on the accuracy of such tests. A food trial is usually performed first. The best way to do a blind food trial is to change the carbohydrate and the protein. If your dog's food is chicken and rice based, you would switch to...duck and potato. The down fall of this is it takes 2-3 months to see improvement. Additionally, if it works, you will not know whether it was the chicken or the rice that bothered your dog. Most people just avoid both since the ultimate goal is to keep your girl happy and feeling good.
Food allergies are not the only type of allergens. Dogs can be allergic to pollen, trees, molds, and even cats- just like humans. Dogs do not typically get sinus infections that humans do to show signs of the allergies but rather they scratch, chew and lick various places on the body.
Ultimately, it is important to determine the cause or else you will be facing a constant battle. There are treatment options available for all causes though some may take longer than others.
