Question

My 3 year old Havanese ate a flower from a Phlox plant this morning. Every now and then he's coughing (like a cat with a hairball). Can he be having a reaction? If so what do I do?

Its probably just the irritation of the vegetation in his stomach irritating him or if there were any sharp stems he might have injured his throat swallowing the flower.
Phlox are not listed as toxic and in many cases are suggested as good choices for use in yards where dogs will be active.
You can see if some Karo syrup or pancake syrup on the tounge will calm the cough by soothing the throat.
Hope this helps you!
