Question

We live in Vermont and have a small bathroom and would like to put the fan on the ceiling to save space. Is this a good idea? I do not think an exhaust fan will move enough air around the room.

in the summer after taking a shower the little bathroom is very hot and I would like to curculate the air. right now we use a small fan setting on the toilet to move the air but it takes up too much room. I would like to put it on the ceiling like livingrooms have. Is there a better way to do this? I do not think an exhaust fan would be good enough.

Hi XXXXXXXX;

Hmmm ....A fan in the bathroom.....

Ok the problem that you have is one of heat. If you consider the fact that heat rises and, apparently there is no place for the heat to go now, I would have to say that installing a ceiling fan is not going to solve your problem any better that your little fan on the toilet. Actually it may make the problem worse as it would force the hot air back down. This is what makes ceiling fans so benificial to rooms that have high vaulted ceilings in the winter.

What needs to be done is get the hot air out of the bathroom. This is the function of exhaust fans. It may not seem like a small fan like that would make a big diffrence. But then all it has to do is get the hot air off of the ceiling and vent it to the outside. Cooler air, which as opposed to warm air stays down low, will be drawn in under the bathroom door to replace the hot air and cool the bathroom down considerably.
