Question

Last week end I feel I overfed these puppies and by Monday evening they had diahrea. I withheld food for 24 hrs and their stools returned to normal but became loose again that evening. I again withheld food for 24 hrs and again their stools returned to normal but became loose again that evening. I am feeding them 1/8 cups of Bill Jack 3 times a day. they have had a fecal check which was negative and are acting normal - playful

Answer

You need to again withhold food for around 12 hours then feed a bland diet of cooked rice and/or boiled chicken or beef for the next 1-2 days and then return to their regular diet. If this does not work it is a diet allergy so you might want to consider an all natural food such as Eagle Pack that would be better tolerared for their systems. Or at least a hypoallergenic food that will cause less change of dietary intolerance.

Reply to Cheryl K.'s Post: are there any medications and/or products that would help with this. Tonight the one puppy's stool is pretty slimy (mucousy)

Accepted Answer

You can give Pepto-Bismol at a dosage rate of one teaspoon four times daily every 6-8 hours to help reduce the diarrhea and also creating a lining on the stomach. Also feed the bland diet once a week and add cottage cheese once a week as well to help prevent this from re-occuring. This should help greatly.
