Answer

By filling the cast iron pot with soapy water and warming the pot on the stove, the metal of the pot should expand enough to allow the plate to be removed, without harming either piece.

Any other suggestions? This didn't work.

Answer

Placing it in the refrigerator for an hour and then heating the pot may help it release the plate. After warming the pot, you should be able to place the pot in you sink upside down and the plate should fall out. The solution is that metal will expand when heated. The plate will not expand as much as the metal in the pot will. THis will allow the plate to be removed.

Answer

Hello, and welcome to Just Answer!

Try a suction cup. If you don't have one around the house already, you can purchase one at most grocery or hardware stores. Try to find a large enough size to get a good grip on the plate. The suction cups in stores may be attached to a clip or a hook to hang something in a shower, for instance.

Try getting the suction cup a little bit wet and then press it onto the plate near the edge. You may be able to gently pull the plate out of the pan this way. Try moving it to different locations on the plate if one location doesn't work. You can also try it with warm water between the pan and the plate or with the water drained out of the pan (if there's a way to get water in and out of the space).

I hope this information is helpful. If it is, please kindly click the "Accept" button, as it is the only way I am compensated for answering your question.

Bonus and positive feedback are always greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and best wishes!

Answer

Yes I would recommend keeping the soapy water in the pot. Actually bringing the water to a boil may help release the grip. Just be very careful when turning the hot pot over in the sink. The steam can burn you. .

Answer

My last recommendation is to take the pot and plate to a china repair shop. They may have the specific tools and expertise necessary to remove the plate for you without breaking it. If the plate does break, you will be in the right place for the repair.

You can try contacting Weil Ceramics and Glass to see if they can recommend anyone. Their number is (XXX) XXX-XXXX, and they are located at 43 W. 57th Street.

Antique shops will also have recommendations for repair shops in your area.

Good luck to you!
