The a.c. on my 1999 Suburban is blowing cold on the "back", and not so cold on the front (front seat)? Do I need to replace the whole a.c. unit, is there more than one? Help. How much to repair/replace the a.c. unit?

Answer

I believe that you will probably just need to have the system serviced and the refridgerent pressure tested, it probably just needs a recharge. This has a separate evaporator on the rear AC unit that can be charged as well as the front at the same time. Just run it by a shop that does AC service and they should be able to charge it up for you.

Reply to Virtual Wrench's Post: Sorry, I didn't disclose that on a previous visit to the shop for a "check up" I was told that the unit (I guess the compressor) has a leak. They told me the units were not fixable when they had a leak, needed to be replaced. Are there two compressors, or just one? How can the front be lukewarm and the back cold?

And how much will it cost if the compressor needs to be replaced??

I see,,,,,there is only one compressor for the front and rear AC units. The reason it is blowing cold on one and not the other is because it's low on freon, i have included the price of replacing the compressor, keep in mind that these are what the dealer will charge, you may find it cheper at an independent shop.
