Hi and welcome,

Unless there is something in the receipt you were given or some sign posted in the shop to the contrary, the general rule is that a repairman has a duty to return the item in at least the same condition it was in when it was brought in plus of course any repairs that were to be performed. The car was within the control of the shop. The shop is responsible.
