Question

my 1 yr old papillon has severe diarrhea. her stools are watery bloody and have some type of mucous in them. what i am assuming is mucous looks like raw meat and have a consistency like   mucous out of your nose. I am very worried because there are no vets opened today. Am I looking at a possible bowel obstruction or diverticulosis or something?

Accepted Answer

Yes you could be looking at both the above or even a problem with her intestional tract. Try a bland diet of cooked rice and/or boiled chicken or beef which can help with the diarrhea and make sure she gets plenty of fluids and have her seen first thing in the morning. Taking a stool sample will be helpful and have them perform x-rays and bloodwork as well as they may choose to try antibiotics if this is related to infection as well.
