Question

As discussed earlier, law enforcement agencies are confined to the number of personnel granted by a different authority. Almost every agency head would prefer to have more personnel or resources. Administrative policies regarding priorities, goals, and objectives are necessary to make the most of what resources and personnel are available.

Consider the following:

You are the sheriff of a county that has 500,000 residents. You have 150 deputies, who fulfill duties such as patrol, investigations, civil service, narcotics enforcement, canine, juvenile services, training, and other support activities. You also have 90 corrections offices that staff the county jail.

The county commission has contracted a company to use queuing models to determine the efficiency of every department n the county. These computer-based models analyze data such as the number of call for service, the number of crimes, response times, etc. to determine the number of personnel needed to accomplish the workload. They have accepted the outcome of the study and have only authorized 120 deputies and 70 corrections officers for the following year. You are going to have to make difficult decisions about where to allocate your officers and what divisions are to lose officers.

Currently, your officers are divided as such:
Patrol - 70 Deputies
Investigations - 12 Deputies
Civil Service - 15 Deputies
Narcotics - 15 Deputies
Training - 3 Deputies
K9 - 10 Deputies (6 Drug dogs, 2 bomb dogs, 2 tracking dogs)
Administrative - 15 Deputies
Assigned to task forces such as H.I.D.T.A. (High Intensity Drug Trafficking), JTTF (Joint Terrorism Task Force) - 4 Deputies
Transport Units for Prisoners - 6 Deputies
JAIL

Corrections Officers- 60
Training - 4
Administrative Support - 6
For this Individual Project, you are to draft an email to the county commissioners asking them to reconsider the sever cuts to your personnel. Keep in mind that for every division that loses officers, they cannot provide the level of service in their respective area of responsibility. Explain where you are going to cut officers, the impact on the affected division, and how you will accommodate any decrease in services.
