I have made a temporary repair to one of the gear shift cables in a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE, 2.4 litre, 5 speed manual transmission (the cable that lets you shift to 2nd, 4th and reverse). Before I did the temporary fix, it would only shift into 1st, 3rd and 5th. When I tried to order the cable from the local Pontiac dealership, their schematic did not differentiate between the two shifter cables and therefore they were unable to tell me which cable to order and if they ordered the wrong one I'd have to "eat it." They said that even if I brought the cable in, they still wouldn't know which one it was. Can you help?
