Question

I lost my question. Hit a wrong button. My parakeet lost his ability
to fly, as of yesterday. He doesn't fly into objects so I let him loose. He seems well, he chirps, eats well, grooms himself except he falls to the ground when he attempts to fly. He never had any
problems with flying, just the opposite, he loves to fly and lands on any surface that catches his attention. He, himself, looks very
puzzled.
Can you help him? Should I take him to an avian vet?

Hello. I'm sorry you had trouble getting your question posted. How old is the bird and how long have you had it? Is it in a metal cage and does it have any toys with metal parts? Can you explain a little better what you mean by lost his ability to fly? Has there been any clipping done of any of his flight feathers or has he shed some of the long flight feathers from his wings? Is he able to get up in the air but is then out of control or is he not able to get airborne at all? Does he fall immediately or does he manage to fly for a short distance, then fall? Does he appear to be out of breath or winded after his attempt? Is he still in control when he lands or is he just plopping down. (If he is not in complete control, please, for his safety, confine him to his cage until we can get to the bottom of this.) I need to know everything in his dailey diet. I also need to know if you are positive it is a male bird. Have you seen any change in the appearance of his droppings? This extra information and anything you can think of to add will help me give you my best advice and suggestons? Thanks, Patricia
